Mildred Stanley is a local non-professional artist who is a member of the Morehead Art Guild. Basically self-taught, she has taken one semester night class and one workshop each in the same media. Mildred began painting in 1976 and paints in watercolors only, having as her favorite subjects flowers, especially wildflowers and landscapes. Being an avid wildflower gardener, there are always pictures to take right in her own backyard hillside garden, which she paints as soon as there is time. Mildred is a realist. If she paints a picture of a rose, she doesn't want it to look like a daisy. Most of her pictures are no larger than a 16 x 20 framed. Local and area art shows are favorite places for her to exhibit her work and she has won numerous purchase awards and ribbons. |
